BBQ Battle

Yesterday we went to the DC BBQ Battle with friends. We had a wonderful time sampling ribs, pulled pork and sausage. It was fun to see the teams set up to compete, all the different smokers and big green eggs.

I got an idea of my brother's experience on a competitive BBQ team while he lived in Mississippi. In fact his team won the 2007 Whole Hog Championship for the state of Louisiana. The experience made us miss our smoker-which is still in Florida, but football season (aka BBQ season) is right around the corner!

Saturday Brunch

Today we had a beautiful brunch. We kicked it off with Bloody Mary's homemade with clamato, horseradish, everglades seasoning, and of course garnished with okra and a celery stalk.

I also made a beautiful loaf of lemon-blueberry banana bread, shrimp and grits and a southern fruit salad-which I forgot to serve! I'm sure it will be a wonderful afternoon snack.

Now we are off to get the house in tip-top shape, as we will be having lots of visitors in July. I know Molly will enjoy our afternoon trip to the dog park as well. Tomorrow holds a trip into the city for the DC BBQ Battle-what fun. Have a wonderful weekend!

The Game

We had a great time at the game last night-even bought a Red Sox baseball hat. I rode the metro with no problems-well I followed a girl in a Red Sox t-shirt-so I knew I was going the right way. I went to the Bullpen before the game and enjoyed a beer, the band and all the people having a good time. It reminded me of The Swamp on game day. There was a record crowd at the game. The night before broke an attendance record! Nationals Stadium is very nice with beautiful views of The Capitol and The Washington Monument. I am looking forward to going to more games this summer, although from now on I will be cheering for the Nationals!

Lots of Firsts

I am looking forward to my first Washington Nationals Baseball game and my first time riding the metro all by myself. I have been invited by my friends to go cheer on the Red Sox's as they take on the Washington Nationals. I am really excited that summer is here, and I will get to enjoy a beautiful night with friends, baseball, and maybe even a hotdog in our nation's capitol.
