Weekend Recap

Friday we headed to the GD Box at Fed Ex Field for the Redskins pre-season game against the Patriots. It was great fun to visit with Josh's co-workers and their wives. We all have such a nice time together, we decided to make plans to all get together on a monthly basis. I also got to visit with my sorority sister Nancy and met her boyfriend. I am excited for them to come to our football party next weekend.

On Saturday we met up with Mike and Lacey to head into the city. We rode the metro in because we didn't know how traffic would be with Ted Kennedy's funeral. Hind site is 20/20, with metro delays we would have been much better off driving. We enjoyed visiting the Smithsonian and seeing the First Ladies Exhibit and Julia Child's Kitchen Bon Appetite! We took advantage of DC's Restaurant Week and visited Chef Goeff's Downtown, which did not disappoint. Since we had metro day passes we decided to go to the Eastern Market. The Farmers Market was fun, we saw lots of interesting things and Josh got his favorite treat, dried mango-yum! Returning home, we were ready to call it a day, when Josh's good friend from his MBA program called to say she was in town on a business trip. We headed up to Bethesda to meet up with Tajma and went out to a Turkish restaurant. We had a great dinner, followed by Turkish coffee. I learned the hard way how important it is to sip Turkish coffee. Ha! We walked around the city, and I loved window shopping-can't wait to go back for some real shopping!

Sunday we slept in and had bagels for brunch, I ran errands and cleaned, cleaned, cleaned!

Menu Monday

  • Monday- Tomato Basil Salad, Garlic Pork Chops, Grilled Asparagus, and Mushroom Risotto
  • Tuesday-Asian Lettuce Wraps
  • Wednesday - Avocado Salad, Grilled Steak, Twice Baked Potatoes, Steamed Broccoli
  • Thursday- Seared Scallops with Lemon Orzo
  • Friday-Kashi Pizza

Football Season

So, my life is already consumed by football season--and I LOVE IT!. I've shopped for my outfits, figured out which games we are attending, bought plane tickets, bought football tickets, and even planned my first Gator Game Viewing Party (we usually go to most of the games).

We are hosting our DC friends for the first gator game against Charleston Southern. The menu is planned, Evite sent and signature cocktails are going to be mixed! I am sad that some of our friends will be out of town for Labor Day weekend festivities, but for all who come we will have a grand time! Josh's signature Asian wings with my wasabi-ginger ranch dip, cheese straws, homemade chicken sausage, shrimp and grits bar (in honor of our opponent), veggie and cheese platters, pulled pork sliders, orange cake (in honor of the gators), and football shaped brownies. We may adjust the menu slightly, but this is the idea. There will be lots of cooking, cleaning and decorating in my future, and I just can't wait!

On September 12th we play Troy at noon. I have my Junior League of Washington DC transfer orientation that morning, so we are going to join the DC Gator Club to watch the game at Bailey's. I am excited to get my DC Gator Club T-shirt for this year!

We are flying home for the Tennessee Game, and I am looking forward to tailgating with friends and stopping by the sorority house. Nothing beats a Gator Game in the Swamp!

For the Kentucky Game we are driving with my sorority sister Maggie to Lexington, KY-it will be a fun road trip, followed by a much needed bi-weekend.

The Big Easy is our next calling for the LSU game in Baton Rouge. We will be spending Friday in New Orleans with Lacey and Mike, and plan for all of us to go to a nice dinner with Reema and Alex. We have lots of tailgates to go to in Death Valley, crawfish boils, creole and jambalaya-oh my!

Arkansas will be watched with friends in DC, and we are still working out our trip details for the Mississippi State game, as Josh will be returning from a business trip abroad that Thursday or Friday.

Josh will be using some of his plentiful vacation time the week of Florida vs Georgia. He is planning to head down to Jacksonville on Wednesday. I will meet him there on Friday night. Rumor has it Gwen and Josh are planning to rent an RV--I hope they can roll in early and get a good spot in RV city. Gwen has already planned and designed our T-shirt for this year-what fun we will all have!

The Vandy game we are going to watch with friends in DC, and the South Caroline game we are going to watch bits-and pieces of with friends, but mostly dance and have a good time at Danny and Allison's Wedding!

We will be watching both the Florida International and Florida State game from DC, unless we decide to go home for Thanksgiving. That is still TBD. Well my blog will probably be centered around football from now until mid-January...Happy Reading and GOOOOO GATORS!

Back from the Beach

First of all, I had a wonderful time at girls beach weekend. I am so lucky to have such beautiful, accomplished, and fun friends that I have been able to share the last 11 years of my life with! The beach was fantastic, and the company was even better. We finally made it across the way to play putt-putt golf. Every year we say we are going to do it-and never have. It was very entertaining, and I think a new tradition has begun.

Last night I met up with my college roommate and sorority sister Maggie in DC for Ethiopian Food. As I drove down Constitution Avenue, the sun was setting and I saw the National Mall full of young professionals playing kickball and baseball. It looked like so much fun. I felt so lucky to live in such a beautiful place. Dinner was fab, and something totally new, which was great!

Tonight I am looking forward to a sorority alumnae happy hour, again in DC-which reminds me I need to steal the Garmen out of Josh's car before I go!

This weekend we are headed to a wedding in Morristown, New Jersey. We are thinking about taking a side trip to The Cake Boss' Bakery in Hoboken. I am really looking forward to visiting with family and getting to re-wear my bridesmaid dress from Lacey's wedding!

Next week I am already looking forward to a Junior League Garden Party and DC's Restaurant Week. Trying to decide when and WERE to go is a difficult task! Suggestions are welcome...

  • Tuesday-Lemon Chicken Stir Fry

Weekend Recap

Soo I was joking with a friend at work that I did so much last weekend I can't even keep it straight.

On Friday night we decided to check out cash for clunkers (my SUV qualifies). We went to the Nissian dealership, and test drove a few cars. I decided that I liked a black Altima. Four hours later, we left with my same old car. We decided that even though we were getting a great deal, no payment is better than a low payment. I really like my SUV, it's fully loaded with all the perks-she's been good to me!

Saturday I woke up to a BEAUTIFUL, SPOTLESS downstairs. Josh staid up later than me and picked up-it was awesome. We went to baby Jack's baptism in Downtown DC. The church was beautiful and we had a great time. Some how we missed getting in the HOV lanes when we were headed to Jen and John's-big mistake. It took a while, but it was well worth the trip for a post baptism reception at their house.

Later, we met a friend of Josh's from work and his wife for dinner at Sweetwaters, then headed to Wolftrap for the B-52's concert. It was my frist time to Wolftrap which is an outdoor theater and National Park all-in-one. It was a beautiful Virginia summer night, I couldn't of asked for a better evening.

Sunday was my long awaited brunch with sorority sisters from Florida. It is surprising how many of us there are in the DC area. I picked up my old college roommate Maggie and we had a great drive down to Richmond. It was so fun catching up! The regular DC group was surprising three of the girls who were in Richmond visiting. Jen planned a great surprise for everyone. We had an amazing time laughing and catching up. It is so great to see how successful everyone is in their careers, and how we have all grown up to become wonderful ladies. I am so glad I had the opportunity to spend time with such a special group!

I knew I wanted to host everyone for an upcoming brunch or gator game at our house. We decided to have a party for the first game of the season, Charleston Southern. I'm so excited to plan everything! The menu, invitations, decorations-oh I can't wait!

Weekend Recap

After getting lost for and hour and almost running out of gas, we joined Lacey and Mike at Market Street Bar & Grill for blue crabs and blue moon on Friday night. It was so much fun sharing dinner with such great friends.

On Saturday, Josh played nine holes at Jefferson with his friend and the two of them discovered a great golf shop close to our house, the shop becomes a theme of our weekend. I spent the morning on laundry and vacuuming with my new toy. Then we were off to bring Mike and Lacey painting supplies and see their new place. The condo is so cute, spacious and superclose to great shopping!

After our grand tour we met up with Jen, John and Jack at Top Golf, which is an awesome driving range that makes where your ball lands into a game. I lost.

On our drive home we stopped at Home Goods, where I got a beautiful blue paisley ironing board cover and mutteler - so I could make minted lemonaid putting to use the mint in my herb garden. Since I got some goodies Josh wanted some too. We stopped at the golf shop that he discovered earlier in the morning and I got him a "Sunday" bag. Which is a lightweight bag that he can fit his clubs in making walking the course a little easier.

On Sunday we were up at 5:45 so Josh could meet up with John for their 7 o'clock Tee Time. I dropped him off and Miss Molly and I headed to Jen's were we prepped for John's birthday celebration. It was fun spending time with Jack - I sure do love that little guy!

The boys got soaked on the course, but had a great time. We enjoyed lunch together topped off with Cold Stone Ice cream cake yum!

It was a great weekend spent with great friends!
